13 undocumented expatriates living in Male' taken into custody by Maldives Immigration

Thirteen expatriates living illegally in the Greater Male' area have been taken into custody by Maldives Immigration.
According to information shared by Maldives Immigration on X, these expatriates were taken into custody during a special raid operation conducted on Thursday.
Maldives Immigration has announced that a total of 426 expatriates were inspected during the operation.
The Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology is currently conducting a special initiative titled "Operation Kurangi" to identify undocumented expatriates working illegally in the Maldives. The third phase of this operation was launched this past May.
According to statistics released by Maldives Immigration, more than 12,000 undocumented or non-compliant expatriates were deported between November 17, 2023, and June 13, 2026.
Despite ongoing operations to address the issue of undocumented migrants, public concern is mounting over the increasing number of expatriates operating without oversight. Many citizens have noted that since President Muizzu’s administration took office, foreign nationals have increasingly dominated the country’s small business sector.
