OIC member states must strengthen efforts to find a solution for Palestinian cause: Iruthisham

The Maldivian Foreign Minister, Iruthisham Adam, has participated in an extraordinary meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held at the ministerial level in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

This meeting marks the first time Minister Iruthisham has participated in an OIC session in her capacity as the Maldives' Minister of Foreign Affairs.

In her address at the meeting, she condemned Israel's continued occupation of Palestinian territories and its assertions of sovereignty over these lands. Furthermore, she expressed grave concern over the failure to take effective measures to halt Israel's illegal actions and to enforce international law.

Minister Iruthisham stated that it is the collective responsibility of OIC member states to uphold the noble principles and values of the Islamic nation, emphasizing the importance of expanding efforts to find a lasting solution to the Palestinian issue.

Furthermore, she reaffirmed the Maldives' unwavering commitment to securing justice and fundamental rights for the Palestinian people. She assured continued support for the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Minister Iruthisham called for the implementation of the "Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict" as a viable path toward sustainable peace. On the sidelines of the meeting, the Minister met with foreign ministers from several OIC member states, highlighting the close ties between the Maldives and the OIC.

The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is an intergovernmental body comprising 57 member states, consistently advocating for the rights of Palestine. Since becoming a member in 1976, the Maldives has remained an active and prominent participant within the organization.
