State is Currently Being Run on Excessive Wastefulness: Waheed

Former Member of Parliament for the Dhidhdhoo constituency, Abdulla Waheed, has stated that the current administration is being run on a foundation of excessive and compounding waste.

Speaking on RaajjeTV’s "Fala Surukhee" program, Waheed stated that as President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu approaches the third year of his term, the state budget is being depleted without the completion of projects in any island. He further noted that none of the initiatives launched by the previous administration are currently making any progress.

Noting that President Muizzu will be unable to fulfill any of his pledges, Waheed stated that the public does not believe any development projects can be executed within the next two years of this administration. He further remarked that while ongoing projects have stalled, the current situation reveals a pattern of President Muizzu layering new promises on top of his previous unfulfilled ones.

Over the past three years, the state budget has been depleted without any significant progress being made in any island. Furthermore, ongoing projects initiated by the previous administration have come to a complete standstill. The Maldivian people no longer believe that this government is capable of delivering results in its remaining two years. There is no indication that any of the initial pledges will be fulfilled. Instead, all we are witnessing is a cycle of empty promises being piled upon one another.

Waheed stated that state ministers are failing to undertake any initiatives that benefit the public. He further noted that even when ministers are questioned, information regarding the progress of projects remains inaccessible, alleging that they are operating under a veil of total secrecy.

Furthermore, Waheed stated that a significant portion of the state budget is spent on salaries and the operational costs of government offices.

Noting that President Muizzu has made no effort to address the losses faced by citizens and businesses, Waheed stated that the country is witnessing a daily decline, with the Maldives' financial situation worsening progressively.

President Muizzu assumed office with numerous pledges to spearhead developmental projects across the nation. However, residents in various islands are now raising concerns that projects initiated by the previous administration have come to a complete standstill. Public frustration is mounting as citizens accuse the government of mismanaging the annual state budget and engaging in wasteful expenditure.
