President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has submitted the names of two nominees to Parliament for appointment to the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM).
The Secretary General of the People’s Majlis presented the nominations submitted by President Muizzu during Sunday's parliamentary session. The President has proposed Shamoon Hameed (H. Meenaaz) and Usthaza Samau Ahmed Najeeb (Asayge, GDh. Thinadhoo) for the vacant positions.
The matter has been referred to the Committee on Gender and Human Rights for further review.
Applications were opened in July for a seat on the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM), as the term of one of its current members is set to expire this October.
Among the nominees submitted by the President, Samau is currently serving as a member of the HRCM. Meanwhile, Shamoon Hamheed has previously held several senior positions within the commission, including the post of Secretary General.
An appointment to the position will be made following a review by the Gender and Human Rights Committee and a subsequent vote on the parliamentary floor.
