A man has died while in police custody at the Male’ Custodial Facility.
Police have launched an investigation into the death of 41-year-old Ahmed Navshad, who was found collapsed in a cell at the Male’ Custodial Center and later pronounced dead on arrival at IGMH. Doctors confirmed he had already passed away before reaching the hospital, and the authorities have since reported the incident to the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) and the National Integrity Commission (NIC) for further oversight.

An individual in police custody at the Male’ Custodial Clinic has passed away.
Police stated that an individual in custody at the Male’ Custodial Clinic was rushed to IGM Hospital on the afternoon of April 15, 2026, after being discovered collapsed inside a holding cell.
The hospital has confirmed that the individual was already deceased upon arrival. The deceased has been identified as Ahmed Naushad, 41, of M. Reyalivaage, Male'.
Information regarding the incident has now been shared with the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) and the National Integrity Commission (NIC).
The police are currently investigating the matter.
