Nimal announced his candidacy for the vice presidency of the PNC while serving as the CEO of the Local Government Authority (LGA). President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu appointed him to the post on August 5, 2024.
In a post on his Facebook account, Nimal stated that his primary objective is to ensure President Muizzu secures victory in the 2028 presidential election. He emphasized that achieving this outcome is his top priority.
Furthermore, Nimal stated that he remains steadfast in his commitment to the PNC. He expressed confidence that party members recognize him as a loyal figure who will stand firmly with the PNC through every challenge and triumph, from the northernmost Haa Alif Atoll to the southernmost Addu City.
