The Ministry of Economic Development has announced that the trade agreement signed between the Maldives and Türkiye has officially come into effect as of today.
In a statement released Saturday, the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade announced that the Preferential Trade Agreement between the Maldives and Türkiye officially entered into force on August 1, 2026. The Ministry highlighted that this agreement marks a significant step toward further strengthening trade, investment, and economic ties between the two nations.
The agreement was signed by the trade ministries of both countries on November 4, 2024. According to the Ministry, both the Maldives and Turkey have now completed the necessary legal procedures required for the agreement to enter into force.
According to the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the agreement will facilitate preferential trade terms for the export of 75 different types of goods. Furthermore, the Ministry stated that the deal will enable Maldivian businesses to import Turkish products at more affordable prices.
In a post on X regarding the matter, Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed stated that Maldivian fish products can now be exported to a market of over 85 million people.
