Maldives condemns attack carried out by Houthi rebels on a Saudi-flagged vessel transiting the Red Sea

While calling for the enforcement of international laws and United Nations resolutions, the Maldives expressed its full support for the measures taken by Saudi Arabia to protect its security and sovereignty.

The Government of the Maldives has strongly condemned the attack carried out by Houthi rebels targeting a Saudi Arabian vessel navigating the Red Sea.
The Maldivian government has characterized these attacks as a grave threat to the freedom, safety, and security of international maritime navigation. The government further stated that it views these actions as dangerous attempts to destabilize and escalate tensions in the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, both of which play a critical role in global energy supply chains. Furthermore, the Maldivian government highlighted that such attacks will have adverse effects on the global economy and energy security, as well as regional stability.
The Maldives has called upon the international community to ensure compliance with UN Security Council Resolutions 2216 and 2722, and to guarantee the enforcement of international laws, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
The Maldives has reaffirmed its unwavering solidarity with the government and the brotherly people of Saudi Arabia. Furthermore, the government expressed its full support for all measures taken by Saudi Arabia to protect its sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity.
