Former Member of Parliament for the West Henveiru constituency, Hassan Latheef, has stated that President Muizzu’s administration has blocked every avenue for citizens to earn an income.
Speaking on RaajjeTV’s "TV Talk" program, Hassan stated that instead of awarding island development projects to private companies, the government is granting them to state-owned enterprises.
Look at the private sector business owners and independent entrepreneurs. Do they understand the current state of vulnerability facing these companies? Regardless of the industry—take a construction firm, for example—there is ample work available within the Maldives. However, the government has failed to facilitate a viable way for them to actually undertake and execute these projects.Hassan Latheef
Hassan stated that the current administration is operating in a reckless and disorganized manner. He further noted that Fenaka is hiring crew members from local fishing vessels, effectively leaving the boats empty and abandoned.
Furthermore, Hassan stated that a significant portion of the state revenue is being utilized for debt repayment solely to project an image of President Muizzu as a strong leader. He added that once the debt is serviced, the remaining funds are being squandered on frivolous entertainment.
