President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that work is underway in Hulhumalé to develop an international-standard stadium featuring multi-level futsal pitches.
President Muizzu made these remarks during the fifth episode of "The Pulse," a podcast series produced by the President's Office, which aired on Friday.
President Muizzu noted that while futsal is the most popular sport in the Maldives, there is a significant shortage of pitches in Male'. To address this, he announced that the government is moving forward with the construction of a multi-story futsal complex. He further stated that the necessary land and funding have been secured, and the project has already been awarded to a contractor. The President emphasized that the facility will be developed as an international-standard stadium.
"The land has now been handed over and work has commenced. This facility is being developed as a futsal complex featuring a stadium capable of hosting international tournaments, along with dedicated training pitches," Muizzu said.
President Muizzu further stated that the government is also working towards developing a similar complex in Hulhumale specifically for netball.
"Everything has been finalized; the land has been secured, funding has been arranged, and the project has already been officially awarded."
President Muizzu stated that a decision has been made to develop an indoor game center at Sultan Park, on the site formerly occupied by the Snow Park, and noted that the project is currently in the design phase.
