Maldives and Bangladesh to strengthen defense ties

The Maldives and Bangladesh have held discussions aimed at bolstering defense ties, enhancing military cooperation, and strengthening institutional relations and strategic partnerships between the two nations.
The agreement was reached on Thursday during a courtesy call paid by the High Commissioner of Bangladesh to the Maldives, Dr. Md. Nazmul Islam, to the Maldivian Minister of Defence and National Service, Hassan Rasheed. The High Commission of Bangladesh has shared details regarding this meeting with the Bangladeshi media.
According to Bangladeshi media reports, the two sides discussed expanding military education and training programs, as well as enhancing the exchange of information and expertise between their respective defense institutions. Furthermore, the discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in humanitarian assistance, disaster relief efforts, and ensuring maritime security, alongside initiatives for further capacity building.
Furthermore, both parties expressed their commitment to strengthening future defense cooperation to ensure peace, stability, and security within the Indian Ocean region.
