Families residing in the Gaakoshi flats on Majeedhee Magu have accused the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) of gross negligence for failing to carry out essential maintenance on the building.
Residents of the Gaakoshi flats have informed RaajjeMV that the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) is severely neglecting the complex. They stated that the failure to adequately maintain the premises is causing significant daily hardships for the people living there.
The current state of the building reveals significant structural deterioration, with large cracks visible across the exterior walls and paint peeling away. Furthermore, frequent pipe bursts have led to flooding inside the flats, causing damage to personal property and creating severe hardships for residents. Additionally, videos circulating publicly show that the building's fire safety equipment has fallen into disrepair.
Residents claim that despite paying regular monthly maintenance fees to the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), the quality of service they receive is not commensurate with the payments made.
When contacted by RaajjeTV’s "Fashaairu" program regarding the issue, an official from the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) stated that they have not yet received any formal reports of such problems at the Gaakoshi flats. However, the corporation assured that if such an issue exists, they will investigate the matter and work to resolve it as swiftly as possible.
As Gaakoshi Flats house a large number of residents, the public has expressed growing concern that the prolonged lack of building maintenance poses a significant threat to the safety and security of those living there. Consequently, residents are urgently calling on the relevant authorities to find a swift resolution to these issues.
