Information Commission orders disclosure of official who represented Maldives at Khamenei's funeral via RTI request
Despite the government's claim that the Maldives was represented at the funeral of Iran's former supreme leader, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has refused to disclose specific details. Rather than identifying the official who attended the ceremony, the Ministry directed inquiries to be filed through a Right to Information (RTI) request. This lack of transparency has raised questions regarding the Maldives' actual participation in the funeral, especially as numerous other nations have publicly identified their respective delegates.

Efforts by RaajjeMV to identify the official representing the Maldives at the funeral of the late Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei have once again proved unsuccessful.
While the government remains reluctant to disclose further details beyond confirming that an ambassador based in a Gulf region embassy attended the late Iranian Supreme Leader's funeral, rumors are intensifying that the Maldives did not officially accept the invitation or participate in the funeral proceedings.
In an effort to uncover the truth behind the matter, RaajjeMV has made repeated attempts to contact the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. However, the Ministry has failed to provide a clear response to date. During RaajjeTV’s "Fashaairu" program on Wednesday, the Ministry was contacted once again, but the Information Officer who spoke on their behalf directed the station to submit a Right to Information (RTI) request to obtain the details.
As representatives from over 100 nations and approximately 20 million mourners gather in Tehran for the funeral of the assassinated Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, various countries have disclosed details regarding the official delegations attending the ceremony. However, the Maldivian government’s apparent efforts to withhold this information have raised significant questions as to whether the Maldives was actually represented at the funeral.
Following the passing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, President Mohamed Muizzu’s administration has failed to observe the long-standing protocols traditionally followed in the Maldives upon the death of a leader of an Islamic nation. The government has further drawn criticism for failing to issue even a basic statement of condolence to the people of Iran.
