President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that a significant majority of the government's ongoing housing projects are slated for completion by mid-2028.

The President made these remarks while speaking at a press conference held on Monday.

The President stated that the current administration is working to achieve something that no previous government has managed to accomplish. In this regard, the President noted that completing housing projects and ensuring residents can move into their flats or housing units within a single government term is an achievement unprecedented in previous administrations.

The President stated that significant progress will be seen this year in the physical construction of flats and housing units. He further emphasized that fulfilling housing pledges remains the government's top priority, adding that opportunities under the affordable housing loan scheme will be opened again this year.

Furthermore, the President stated that housing projects across 13 islands, funded through Bank of Maldives, are now ready to commence practical work following the disbursement of necessary advance payments.

President Muizzu stated that a significant percentage of housing projects are expected to be completed by mid-2028. He emphasized that as housing remains a critical issue facing the Maldives, the government is working extensively to resolve the crisis.

The President further stated that 60 percent of the Ras Malé reclamation project has been completed, noting that the work faced delays due to fuel shortages and financial constraints. He expressed hope that the project would be finalized by the end of this year.

Furthermore, the President expressed full confidence that all housing units currently under construction in the Greater Male' Area will be completed by mid-2028. He also stated that the final list of flat recipients will be released within this year, following the necessary verification processes.

With 2028 being a presidential election year, some observers have noted that President Muizzu is following the same pattern he once criticized. Despite previously condemning governments for ramping up project activities in their final year to coincide with elections, critics point out that his administration is now employing the same tactics.
