Fishery production saw a significant decline over the past month
According to statistics from MIFCO, fish purchases saw a significant decline in May, dropping to 1,791 tonnes from the 4,414 tonnes recorded in April. This downturn in catch resulted in a corresponding decrease in payments to fishermen, which fell from MVR 78 million to MVR 31 million. Fishermen attributed the poor season to logistical challenges, specifically difficulties in obtaining fuel from Kooddoo, which prevented vessels from traveling to more distant fishing grounds.
