Saleem elected as Deputy Speaker of Parliament
Ahmed Saleem, the Member of Parliament for the Eydhafushi constituency, has been elected as the Deputy Speaker of the People's Majlis with 62 votes in his favor. His opponent, Vaikaradhoo MP Hussain Ziyad, received 10 votes in the election held to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of the former Deputy Speaker, Ahmed Nazim.

Ahmed Saleem, the Member of Parliament for the Eydhafushi constituency, has been elected as the Deputy Speaker of the People's Majlis.
During Monday's parliamentary sitting, Saleem was appointed as the Deputy Speaker of the People's Majlis, securing 62 votes from the 72 members present and voting.
The seat was contested by Saleem and the Member of Parliament for the Vaikaradhoo constituency, Hussain Ziyad. Ziyad received 10 votes. Speaker of the Parliament Abdul Raheem Abdulla, presiding over the session, announced that two invalid votes were cast. Consequently, the final vote count was tallied excluding those two ballots.
During the sitting, the Member for Inguraidhoo constituency, Ibrahim Falah, proposed Saleem for the position of Deputy Speaker of the Parliament. The motion was seconded by Ibrahim Shujau, the Member for Baarashu constituency.
The nomination of MP Ziyad for the position of Deputy Speaker of Parliament was put forward by the Member for Hanimaadhoo constituency, Abdul Ghafoor Moosa. The motion was seconded by the Member for Thoddoo constituency, Hussain Sameer.
The position of Deputy Speaker of Parliament has become vacant following the resignation of Ahmed Nazim, the Member of Parliament for the Dhiggaru constituency.
