North Hithadhoo By-election: Candidate names randomized and finalized
The candidate list has been finalized for the upcoming by-election for the Hithadhoo North constituency, following the disqualification of MP Mohamed Sinan. Ahmed Saeed will represent the ruling People's National Congress (PNC) as candidate number one, while former Mayor Abdulla Sodiq will contest on the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) ticket as candidate number two.

The names of the candidates contesting the by-election for the vacant North Hithadhoo constituency seat in the People's Majlis have been officially sequenced.
The seat for the constituency became vacant following a Supreme Court ruling that disqualified sitting Member of Parliament Mohamed Sinan. The court determined that Sinan no longer met the constitutional requirements for office due to an outstanding proven debt that remains unpaid.
Former Addu City Mayor Abdulla Sodiq is contesting the election on the MDP ticket, while Ahmed Saeed is representing the PNC.
Among them, PNC candidate Saeed was assigned candidate number 1, while Sobe received candidate number 2.
Voting for the election, scheduled for June 6, will take place from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Vote counting will commence 30 minutes after the polls close. According to the Elections Commission, the official results of this election will be announced on Monday, June 8, 2026.
