Fifth suspect arrested and 50,000 Rufiyaa recovered in Nalahiya apartment theft case involving four million
A fifth suspect has been arrested and remanded in custody for five days in connection with the theft of four million Rufiyaa from an apartment in Nalahiya. While police have recovered 50,000 Rufiyaa so far, authorities are currently finalizing the investigation to forward the case to the Prosecutor General’s Office for formal charges against the five individuals now in custody.

The Maldives Police Service has announced the arrest of a fifth suspect and the recovery of 50,000 Rufiyaa in connection with the theft of four million Rufiyaa from an apartment in Nalahiya Residence.
Police announced on Sunday that an additional suspect was arrested the same day in connection with a burglary at an apartment in Nalahiya Residence on Majeedhee Magu, reported at approximately 17:49 on March 16, 2026. This individual marks the fifth person to be taken into custody regarding the case.
Police have identified the individual arrested in connection with this case as 47-year-old Jazeel Mohamed, a native of Jazeelamanzil in Haa Dhaalu Atoll Nolhivaranfaru. According to the police, he was presented before the court to determine his detention status, where he was ordered to be remanded in custody for five days.
Furthermore, police stated that a total of four million Maldivian Rufiyaa was stolen in the heist, of which only fifty thousand Rufiyaa has been recovered so far.
Police are investigating a burglary reported at an apartment in Nalahiya Residence on Majeedhee Magu. The incident was reported to the authorities at approximately 17:49 on March 16, 2026.
A total of 4,000,000 (four million) Maldivian Rufiyaa was stolen in the heist. Of the stolen funds, only 50,000 (fifty thousand) Maldivian Rufiyaa has been recovered.
The initial suspects arrested in connection with this case are Mohamed Noor Ahmed (40) of Kasthoorimaage, Lh. Naifaru; Mohamed Afrah (40) of Moonlight Villa, S. Meedhoo; Ismail Asif (36) of Daarul Avval, R. Maduvvari; and Ahmed Faris (39) of M. Asia, Male'.
Police have stated that a significant portion of the investigation has now been completed. Efforts are currently underway to finalize the remaining stages of the inquiry and submit the case to the Prosecutor General’s Office for formal charges.
