Father dies while attempting to rescue his two children drifting at sea
A father who attempted to rescue his two children from being swept away by strong currents while swimming in V. Fulidhoo passed away on Friday while undergoing treatment. The man, who was on vacation with his family, fell ill after struggling to save his two daughters from a high-current area. While both children were successfully rescued, the police are currently conducting a further investigation into the incident.

A father has passed away while receiving treatment after falling ill during an attempt to rescue his two children, who were swept away by currents while swimming in V. Fulidhoo today.
The victim of this incident has been identified as Hussain Habeeb, 63, of Dunnikage, S. Hithadhoo (H. Giniraahige).
According to the police, the incident was reported at approximately 3:10 p.m. on Friday. The individual’s condition deteriorated during the attempt to rescue two children who were being carried away by the current. Although he was immediately rushed to the Fulidhoo Health Center for emergency treatment, he passed away while under medical care. His body has since been transported to Male'.
According to Fulidhoo Council President Mohamed Imthiyaz, the deceased and his family had arrived on the island from Male' around noon on Friday for a vacation. The incident occurred while the family was swimming on the eastern side of the island. Imthiyaz noted that the area is known for its consistently strong currents and deep waters.
A resident of V. Fulidhoo reported that two girls, aged between 13 and 15, were swept away by a strong current while swimming with their family. Upon seeing them drift away, their father reportedly jumped into the water and made a frantic effort to rescue them. Both children were successfully brought to safety and are said to be in good condition.
Police are conducting a further investigation into the matter to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
As a large number of people travel to the islands for the weekend, relevant authorities continue to urge the public to exercise caution when engaging in water-based activities.
