Ambulance services to be covered by Aasandha in certain circumstances
The President has announced that the government has made key decisions to address public concerns regarding the lack of ambulance services under the Aasandha scheme. Starting the first of next month, Aasandha will cover ambulance services for emergencies, patient transfers, and specialized transport for individuals with disabilities and thalassemia patients. This decision, made after reviewing financial and operational considerations, aims to provide much-needed relief and ease of access for the public.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that starting next month, ambulance services will be covered under the Aasandha national health insurance scheme in specific circumstances.
Speaking to the press on Monday, the President noted that the unavailability of ambulance services under the Aasandha scheme is a significant concern for many citizens. He stated that, as a result, several key decisions have been made to address the issue.
Furthermore, the President stated that ambulance services under Aasandha will now be available for persons with disabilities when visiting hospitals for outpatient services, as well as for transfers between hospitals for specialized treatment or diagnostic testing. The President also noted that these services would cover transportation to airports or jetties during emergency medical evacuations or overseas referrals. Additionally, ambulance coverage will be extended to individuals with thalassemia when seeking outpatient medical care.
Effective April 1, Aasandha will cover ambulance services for all such circumstances. This decision follows extensive deliberations and a comprehensive review of the technical data, including the financial and budgetary implications, as well as the operational requirements.
