President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that starting next month, ambulance services will be covered under the Aasandha national health insurance scheme in specific circumstances.

Speaking to the press on Monday, the President noted that the unavailability of ambulance services under the Aasandha scheme is a significant concern for many citizens. He stated that, as a result, several key decisions have been made to address the issue.

Furthermore, the President stated that ambulance services under Aasandha will now be available for persons with disabilities when visiting hospitals for outpatient services, as well as for transfers between hospitals for specialized treatment or diagnostic testing. The President also noted that these services would cover transportation to airports or jetties during emergency medical evacuations or overseas referrals. Additionally, ambulance coverage will be extended to individuals with thalassemia when seeking outpatient medical care.

Effective April 1, Aasandha will cover ambulance services for all such circumstances. This decision follows extensive deliberations and a comprehensive review of the technical data, including the financial and budgetary implications, as well as the operational requirements. This change comes in response to frequent requests from the public.
