Protesters reported that while the implementation of the new pay framework increased basic salaries, it simultaneously eliminated approximately ten previously existing allowances, resulting in no significant net gain.

Staff at various government agencies have staged a protest following changes to the state pay framework, which they claim has resulted in their salaries being slashed severalfold despite the new structure being intended to increase wages across the public sector.
The protest took place on Wednesday in front of the Aasaharaa cemetery in Machangolhi. Participants expressed their grievances by holding placards inscribed with various slogans during the demonstration.
Speaking with RaajjeMV, protesters explained that although basic salaries were increased under the new pay framework, several previously existing allowances have been abolished. Specifically, approximately 10 different types of allowances—including overtime pay, religious service allowances, and risk allowances—have been discontinued.
Furthermore, they highlighted that despite being required to report for duty on public holidays, they do not receive any additional compensation for those days.
Morticians stated that these concerns have been shared with the President. They further noted that the grievances have also been brought to the attention of the President's Office, the Pay Commission, and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed.
However, protesters expressed their concerns during the demonstration, noting that these issues remain unresolved to this day.
