Government is desperately struggling to secure a win in the referendum: Raee
Raee alleged that the government is seeking the assistance of influential tycoons to secure a win in the referendum held alongside the local council elections. Calling on the Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate, he suggested that Jumhooree Party leader Gasim Ibrahim’s support for the government appears to be in exchange for financial benefits.

Former Member of Parliament for the Makunudhoo constituency, Mohamed Raee, has stated that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration is desperately struggling to secure a victory in the upcoming referendum.
Speaking at a press conference held by the MDP on Friday, Raee stated that the government is exerting every effort and utilizing all its power to ensure success in the upcoming referendum, which is being held alongside the local council elections.
He stated that old tactics are being revived and that wealthy tycoons aligned with the government are being mobilized to influence the referendum vote. Referring to Jumhooree Party leader Qasim Ibrahim, Raee remarked that the businessman does nothing without a personal motive. He further called on the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to launch an investigation into Villa Group regarding this matter.
Members of Gasim Ibrahim’s Jumhooree Party Council are vehemently opposing this move. Similarly, MDA Member of Parliament Abbas is vocal in his dissent, posting daily updates on social media and issuing a formal statement as recently as last night. I simply do not believe that Gasim Ibrahim would stand by the government at a time like this without a personal motive. The government has just sold a fish processing platform for $18 million to generate public funds. Therefore, I am calling on the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to investigate Gasim’s offices and the Villa Group. He would never offer his support for free.Mohamed Raee, the former Member of Parliament for the Makunudhoo constituency.
Noting that the current administration attempted to conduct the referendum proceedings in total secrecy, Raee stated that these efforts failed due to the work of the MDP. He further highlighted that the "Noonekey" campaign has now expanded across the entire Maldives.
Raee stated that campaign efforts will be intensified during the brief period remaining for the election following the conclusion of Ramadan, with further efforts to clarify the current situation to the public. He noted that the Maldivian people are already well-informed and expressed confidence that the government will not succeed in this referendum.
