Foreign Minister Khaleel says a request was made for permission to use Maldivian airspace to conduct military strikes
Khaleel has stated that while the Maldives has received requests from various countries seeking permission to use its airspace for military strikes, no such authorization has been granted to any nation. Although the Minister confirmed the receipt of these requests, he did not disclose the specific identities of the countries involved.

Foreign Minister Dr. Abdulla Khaleel has stated that requests have been made to use Maldivian airspace for military strikes, amid escalating tensions in the Middle East fueled by the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.
Speaking at a press conference held at the President's Office on Thursday, Foreign Minister Abdulla Khaleel, representing the committee established by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, stated that the committee has worked diligently to safeguard the security and economic interests of the Maldives. In this regard, Minister Khaleel emphasized that Maldivian airspace has not been utilized by any country for the purpose of launching attacks.
Highlighting the issue, Khaleel stated that requests have been received seeking permission to use Maldivian airspace to launch military attacks. However, he clarified that no country has been granted authorization to use the nation's airspace for such purposes. The Foreign Minister did not disclose the names of the countries that had submitted these requests.
Our top priority is to protect the peace and economic stability of the Maldives. In this regard, I would like to state that the Maldivian airspace has not been used by any country to launch military attacks. I also wish to inform you that we continue to reject any such requests. The United States and Israel launched a coordinated attack on Iran on February 28. Since then, Iran has been retaliating with a series of counter-strikes. As the conflict in the Middle East continues to cause significant shocks to the global economy, nations around the world have been implementing various measures for some time.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has previously stated that the Maldives' position on this conflict is to remain aligned "in a single block" with Arab nations. As the conflict nears the two-week mark, Foreign Minister Khaleel had remained silent on the matter until now. However, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs recently issued a statement condemning the war.
