Campaign activities can be carried out at Dhimyaath without anyone raising an objection, but such activities cannot be conducted within Mulee'aage: Meekail
Emphasizing that Mulee'aage is a prestigious state residence, Meekail stated that the facility is provided and maintained using public funds for the elected president’s residence. Consequently, he asserted that the premises must not be utilized for conducting political campaign activities.

Member of Parliament for South Galolhu constituency, Meekail Ahmed Naseem, has stated that while no one would object to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu conducting campaign activities at his private residence, M. Dhimyaath, such activities cannot be permitted within the official presidential residence, Mulee'aage.
Speaking on RaajjeTV’s "Fala Surukhee" program, the opposition lawmaker stated that while Maldivians have witnessed numerous administrations, no previous leader has conducted themselves in the manner of President Muizzu. He noted that there are established rules and regulations governing the use of state resources, yet the President continues to disregard all standard protocols and principles.
Highlighting that Mulee'aage is a highly esteemed residence, Meekail stated that the state provides the official residence for the elected President and maintains it using public funds. Consequently, the MP asserted that campaign activities should not be conducted on the premises.
However, he expressed concern over President Muizzu conducting campaign activities at Mulee'aage, the official presidential residence. He further noted that no one would object if such activities were held at the President's private residence, M. Dhimyaath.
With only a month and a half remaining until the elections, is it not an act of corruption for President Muizzu to host PNC candidates at Mulee'aage? What kind of spectacle is being staged by hosting Alika, who is contesting for the WDC presidency, Mayoral candidate Moosa Ali Jaleel, and current councilors representing our constituencies at the official residence? These activities are being funded by our tax money. Mulee'aage is a residence provided for the President to live in; it is not a venue assigned by the state to be maintained by the public treasury for the purpose of conducting political campaigns. The President is gravely mistaken in his conduct. If he wishes to hold such meetings, he can use Dhimyaath in Maafannu or the rooms at the Dhimyaath Guesthouse. Mulee'aage must be treated with the dignity and respect it deserves. We must uphold the integrity of that institution.Meekail Ahmed Naseem, Member of Parliament for the South Galolhu constituency.
Meekail made these remarks following a meeting held at Mulee'aage on Monday evening, February 16, 2026, with the owners of Sinamale' and Male' Hiya flats. The meeting was attended by Moosa Ali Jaleel, the People's National Congress (PNC) candidate for the Male' City mayoral race, and the current Deputy Mayor, Ahmed Areesh. Areesh is also contesting in the upcoming local council elections.
President Muizzu decided during this meeting to grant a 100,000 Rufiyaa "allowance" to the owners of Sinamale' and Male' hiya flats ahead of the council elections, at a time when his pledge to provide a permanent solution to the issues facing these flats remains unfulfilled and progress has stalled.
In connection with this matter, campaign activities at the presidential residence, Mulee'aage, have reportedly been significantly intensified. Many are alleging that these actions constitute the blatant distribution of bribes. Furthermore, the matter has been formally submitted to the Anti-Corruption Commission for investigation.
