It has emerged that one of the elevators at the Male’ Grand apartment complex has remained out of service for nearly a month.
Speaking to RaajjeMV, residents reported that the elevator broke down on January 24th. Some locals noted that the elevator had also experienced technical issues approximately a month and a half prior. Following the breakdown, the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), which manages the premises, posted a notice on the elevator. While the notice was posted in late January, it lacks a specific date; consequently, some residents have accused HDC of intentionally omitting the date to obscure how long the elevator has remained out of service.
A resident who spoke to this newspaper stated that despite repeatedly questioning the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) regarding the broken elevator, the corporation has failed to provide a clear timeline for when the issue will be resolved. HDC has informed the residents of Male’ Grand that the repairs remain stalled due to the unavailability of necessary spare parts.
"We have repeatedly complained about this issue. It is a major struggle for so many people to rely on a single elevator. It becomes particularly difficult during school hours when the situation becomes nearly unbearable," a resident stated.
HDC informed RaajjeMV that the spare parts required to repair the elevator have now been received. The corporation stated that the repairs are scheduled to be completed this Tuesday. HDC further clarified that the delay in fixing the issue was due to difficulties in procuring the necessary components from abroad.
