Epstein emails expose Dr. Waheed’s plan to push Maumoon out of politics
Newly released U.S. Department of Justice documents reveal an unusually close relationship between former President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik and Jeffrey Epstein. In a 2013 email, Waheed expressed confidence in his election coalition and his intent to force former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom into retirement. Epstein reportedly congratulated Waheed on these political developments. The disclosure is part of a massive data dump involving millions of Epstein-related files.

Leaked email correspondence has revealed that former President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik informed his close associate, Jeffrey Epstein, of his intention to teach former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom a “lesson” by demonstrating that it was time for him to retire and withdraw from the political arena.
The disclosure stems from an email sent by Dr. Waheed to Epstein on 15 May 2013.
As the United States Department of Justice released millions of files related to the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, numerous emails exchanged between the former Maldivian president and Epstein have come to light. These records represent the largest collection of Epstein-related documents ever released by the U.S. government, following legislation passed last year.
The data dump, made public on January 30, consists of three million pages of documents, 180,000 photographs, and 2,000 videos. The release was mandated by a law signed by U.S. President Donald Trump, which required the full disclosure of all records associated with Epstein.

According to the documents released by the U.S. government, an unusually close relationship existed between Epstein and Dr. Waheed, who currently serves as the Special Envoy to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
In the email to Epstein, Dr. Waheed stated that efforts were underway to bring two additional parties into their fold and expressed full confidence in securing victory in the first round of the election. He further asserted that former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s attempt to win the election for the benefit of his family would result in a significant lesson for him, making it clear that the time had come for him to withdraw from politics and remain retired.
In his response, Epstein reportedly congratulated Dr. Waheed on the formation of the coalition.
