Residents flag ongoing water supply issues at Amaan Udhares Tower 10
Residents of Amaan Udhares Tower 10 in Hulhumalé have reported receiving apartment keys without water supply, despite officials claiming services are available. Many recipients also cite forced signatures on incomplete work checklists, high meter readings, and missed handover deadlines. The government delayed the near-complete Gedhoruveriyaa project for two years before public pressure prompted handovers.

Recipients of apartments in Tower 10 of the Amaan Udhares housing project, developed in Hulhumalé Phase II during the former administration of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), have begun voicing concerns over the continued lack of water supply to several units.
The apartments were developed by Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) through the Indian contractor Kalpataru Projects International Limited. Key handovers commenced under President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration as local council elections approached. However, despite two years having elapsed under the current government before the handover process began, the public has raised numerous complaints regarding unfinished infrastructure and incomplete facilities within the units.
Speaking to RaajjeMV, a recipient from Amaan Udhares Tower 10 stressed that upon arriving to collect their keys, FDC officials informed them that water services were not yet available in the apartment. According to the recipient, FDC stated that they could either take the keys immediately or wait until the water issue was resolved.
The resident explained that due to a lack of trust in the government’s handling of the housing projects, and out of fear that delaying could result in losing the apartment, they chose to accept the keys despite the absence of water services.
On January 3, the Malé Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) announced that water and sanitation services for the 4,000 apartments under the ‘Gedhoruveriyaa’ scheme had been fully established.
When RaajjeMV contacted FDC regarding the current complaints, the corporation maintained that water supply is now available to all towers within Amaan Udhares.
Beyond water supply concerns, many recipients under the Gedhoruveriyaa scheme have raised additional grievances. These include delays in scheduled key handovers and allegations that FDC pressured owners to sign completion checklists acknowledging that all work had been completed, even when certain aspects of the apartments remained unfinished.
Some residents have also reported unusually high initial readings on water and electricity meters at the time of handover. Others said that after refusing to take keys due to visible water leaks, FDC failed to provide a follow-up date for repairs or handover, even after several days.
The Gedhoruveriyaa flats, which were near completion during former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration, were reportedly held back by the current government for more than two years.
Although the handover process eventually began following widespread public criticism and a series of protests, the government has repeatedly missed its own deadlines for completing the process.
While the administration has most recently pledged to hand over all keys before the start of the new academic year, many citizens remain skeptical about whether this commitment will be met.
