The Maldivian national women’s volleyball team recorded another strong victory at the Central Asian Volleyball Association (CAVA) Women’s Cup, currently being hosted in the Maldives, defeating Kyrgyzstan in their third match of the tournament.
Maldives began the four-nation competition in commanding fashion, securing a straight-sets victory over Bangladesh in the opening match. That momentum continued in the second fixture, where the team again delivered an impressive performance to defeat Afghanistan in three sets.
On Monday night, Maldives faced Kyrgyzstan in their third league-round match. Kyrgyzstan entered the contest after also registering convincing three-set wins against Bangladesh and Afghanistan. The match, played at the Youth Center indoor court, saw the Maldives emerge victorious by three sets to one.
Kyrgyzstan made a strong start, taking the opening set 25-15. Maldives responded with resilience, mounting a determined comeback to claim the next three sets and secure the match. After an intense contest, Maldives drew level by edging the second set 25-23.
Maldives asserted control in the third and fourth sets, displaying greater consistency and determination. The team won the third set 25-19 and closed out the match with a 25-22 win in the fourth set.
With this result, Maldives finished the league round as the top-ranked team and advanced to the semi-finals.
Maldives will face Bangladesh in the first semi-final on Wednesday afternoon, while the second semi-final, scheduled for Wednesday night, will see Kyrgyzstan take on Afghanistan.
