The process of waiving overdue fines for Hiyaa flats has officially begun.
Since mid-December, the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has been sending out letters to numerous Hiyaa flat beneficiaries, informing them that their outstanding fines have been forgiven.
According to a letter issued by HDC to one Hiyaa flat owner, all fines that were due as of 31 December 2023, have been pardoned, in line with the government's designated payment concessions for Hiyaa flats.
The communication further stated that, in line with this approach and aimed at providing greater ease to the public, President Muizzu has decided to waive all fines that were due and unpaid between 1 January 2024 and 30 November 2025. These fines have also been pardoned.
This comes at a time President Muizzu was scheduled to meet with residents of Hulhumalé on Thursday night. It is worth noting that with local council elections approaching, the government is pushing forward initiatives that are framed as efforts to resolve public concerns.
