Assistant Commissioner of Police Ahmed Shifan speaks to press

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Ahmed Shifan, currently facing multiple allegations, has formally requested an internal investigation into the unauthorized modification of his personal data within the Maldives Police Service (MPS) and the subsequent leak of that information.

In a letter addressed to Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen on Sunday, Shifan raised concerns that certain actions within the institution were being driven by personal motives and bias, in violation of the constitutional principles and regulations that govern the police institution’s administrative integrity.

He emphasized that the disciplinary framework established under Article 16 of the Police Act is central to maintaining the professionalism of the institution. According to Shifan, the Digital Data and Technology Department had informed him that an Assistant Commissioner altered his personal information in the Police Service Commission (PSC) system in May of this year. The issue was officially reported on May 29.

Shifan further stated that on November 8, an individual with system access shared data from the PSC system, including what he described as falsified information, with several official institutions and local agencies. He has therefore requested that the matter be investigated through the established internal mechanisms of the police institution.

The request comes as serious accusations of abuse of power and sexual harassment have been submitted against Shifan and Deputy Commissioner of Police Farhad Fikry.

A case concerning these allegations was filed with 241 Committee of the People’s Majlis on November 3.
