An additional individual has been arrested over the death of an expatriate in the Life water production facility in Hinmafushi island in Kaaf Atoll.

The 38-year old Bangladeshi native passed away on August 19th.

A Maldivian was arrested from the island on August 22nd. Residents of the island report that the arrested individual was a close associate of the plant manager and a former Police officer.

An additional individual was arrested on 30th August. The 44-year old Maldivian man was remanded for 12 days.

Life Company CEO Ali Ihsan said that they had requested for a Police inquiry as it was a sudden death. He said the deceased was first taken to Hinmafushi Health Center and then transferred to Male’, where testing was done in both Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) and ADK Hospital. Both hospitals, he said confirmed that the deceased had passed away after a cardiac arrest.

Ihsan also reported that there were no visible signs of any physical abuse on the body.
