In a significant move aimed at improving public service delivery, Malé City Mayor Adam Azim has announced that all services provided by the Malé City Council are now consolidated under a single location, the newly designated Malé City Hall, located on the southern side of Boduthakurufaanu Magu.

Previously, residents had to navigate nine different buildings scattered across various wards of the congested capital to access municipal services. Mayor Azim emphasized that this change marks a major milestone in easing the burden on citizens and enhancing the efficiency of council operations.

Highlighting that this is a major step forward in our commitment to serve the people of Malé better, Azim stated that they have eliminated the need for residents to move from one office to another, streamlining service delivery under one roof.

The initiative is part of Mayor Azim’s ongoing campaign under the theme, “I will do what can be done”, reflecting his promise to bring practical, people-focused changes to the city’s administration.

With all departments now operating from one centralized location, Mayor Azim stated that the Malé City Council aims to become a hub for swift, sincere, and citizen-friendly services. He expressed confidence that this shift will transform how residents engage with the council, making it a place people willingly and happily visit for municipal support.

According to the Council, centralizing operations will lead to reduced administrative costs, faster service delivery, improved service quality, and a more coordinated and efficient public interface.

This consolidation is seen as a transformative step in urban governance for the capital, which serves nearly 250,000 residents.

All core municipal services have now been relocated to Malé City Hall, including land and building services, vital registration, procurement, human resources, administration, council bureau, finance, road management, and harbor and market management.

In addition to this, the building previously known as Thaisay Koshi has officially been renamed Malé City Hall, following approval by a majority of councilors during the 211th session of the fourth term of the council, held on Wednesday.

Construction of a new council headquarters is also underway on the eastern side of Malé City Hall. With 60 percent of the concrete work already completed, the new building is expected to be finalized by 2026.

Once completed, it will serve as a permanent, purpose-built facility for the largest local council in the country, finally addressing the longstanding issue of inadequate space and fragmented operations.

The council hopes that this long-term investment will permanently end the challenges faced by thousands of citizens in accessing essential services, marking a new chapter in urban administration and civic convenience in the Maldives.
