The City Council has announced that they cannot issue resident registrations for the flats allocated by the former administration, under the "Gedhoruveriyaa" Scheme.
The City Council stated in a written response to a private individual on Thursday that the current procedure for issuing resident registrations is that when the buyer submits a request to the council for a resident registration along with a copy of the agreement made under the "Sale and Purchase Agreement," a resident registration is issued in the name of the buyer of the property.
Although the agreement being made between Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) and private individuals is called a "Unit Rental and Ownership Agreement," the City Council has also stated that when looking at the entire agreement, it is clear that this is a rental agreement made between the lessor and the lessee.
As such, the City Council has informed the individual that they cannot issue a resident registration in the name of the apartment tenant, which should be issued in the name of the apartment owner, under a rental agreement.
