Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik, the Bureau Chief of the People's Majlis Administration and former member of the People's Majlis for Vilimalé constituency, has settled a debt of nearly one million Maldivian Rufiyaa with State Trading Organization (STO).
The High Court has officially withdrawn the appeal in the case involving Nihan, following his settlement of the outstanding debt as ordered in the original verdict.
The Civil Court’s judgment from December 2019 found that Nihan owed the State Trading Organization (STO) a total of MVR 959,362. The case concerned Nihan’s rental of the Harbor Food Court for five years, during which he failed to pay the required rent.
The judgment, issued in Nihan’s absence, mandated that he pay the overdue rent and maintenance fees up to the date the case was filed, along with accrued fines for non-payment. With the debt now settled, the legal dispute has been resolved.
Further, the court ordered him to settle the amount to STO within six months. Nihan had appealed the verdict in the High Court. The appeal stated that the verdict was made in his absence and that he did not have the opportunity to present evidence he wanted to submit.
The High Court has now issued a statement after dismissing Nihan's appeal case. The statement says that Nihan sent a letter a letter to the High Court on July 7, requesting to withdraw the case.
In addition to this, the statement mentions that after creating a settlement agreement to pay the amount stated in the Civil Court judgment, he has paid according to the agreement. Nihan has since confirmed to several media outlets that he has paid the entire amount involved in the case, effectively closing the matter.
