The Maldives Police Service (MPS) has requested the public to avoid the area in Hulhumalé where the fire broke out on Thursday, due to heavy smoke spreading.
The Ensis warehouse in Hulhumalé Phase I caught fire, causing thick smoke to spread throughout the area.
In a statement released by the police institution, it was highlighted that visibility has decreased due to the heavy smoke spreading from the fire incident. They also stated that due to the potential health risks, especially for people with respiratory issues, the public is advised not to visit the area unless absolutely necessary.
The police institution has also urged people in the area to be cautious when using the roads. They have appealed to residents to keep their doors closed and to take protective measures such as wearing masks if they need to go outside.
The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Fire and Rescue Service was active in the area to extinguish the fire at the Ensis warehouse, after receiving reports of the fire at 06:48pm on Thursday.
