The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure has begun notifying individuals who do not meet the criteria for the 4,000 flats announced under the Gedhoruveriyaa scheme.
The ministry's notification is titled "Notice to those who do not meet the criteria among applicants for flats under the Gedhoruveriyaa scheme allocation policy."
The notice states that while the recipient was included in the list of 4,000 flat recipients, upon verification of eligibility criteria for applicants under the Gedhoruveriyaa scheme, they have been determined to "not meet the criteria."
The reason for the ministry's decision that the criteria are not met is included in the notice.
The ministry also states that if there are any complaints regarding the notice, they must be submitted within five days.
Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Abdulla Muththalib has said that approximately 700 people will be removed from the list of flat recipients announced by the previous government under the Gedhoruveriyaa scheme.
The minister noted that the list includes 391 married couples and 302 individuals who already own land or flats. He also mentioned that 305 people who received land under the Binveriyaa scheme are included.
The minister stated that if a married couple is included in the list published by the previous government, only one of them will receive a flat. He added that if someone's spouse received land under the Binveriyaa scheme, they would only get a flat if they agree to give up that land.
While the minister said this, State Minister Ibrahim Nazeem, responding to concerns of flat recipients, said that when the previous government announced the policies, there was no condition that would prevent someone from receiving a flat if the wife has a plot of land and the husband has a plot of land.
The current government announced its decision to allocate flats to the remaining individuals on the list published by the previous government, after removing those they deem "ineligible," at a press conference held at the President's Office on May 29.
At the presser, the housing minister said that the current government will not issue a new list as the final list.
On 15 November 2023, Minister Muththalib also stated that no one would be removed from the list published by the previous government without giving them an opportunity to appeal, and if they choose to go to court, only after that process is completed and it is certain they will not receive a flat.
