The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has urged the public to minimize visits to Velana International Airport (VIA) to receive returning Hajj pilgrims.
The public health authority revealed that if any symptoms of illness appear within 14 days of returning from Hajj, pilgrims should visit a hospital. They emphasized the need for special precautions to protect against diseases.
Further, they requested that pilgrims inform doctors about their recent Hajj trip when seeking medical attention.
In addition to this, HPA has also advised covering the mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing if infected with the flu, and safely disposing of tissues after use. They also urged wearing masks while traveling.
HPA has also requested that large gatherings be avoided for two weeks after the return of Hajj pilgrims. Specifically, they urged against holding gatherings involving children, elderly people, and sick individuals during the first week.
According to HPA statistics, the spread of seasonal diseases has increased during this period. Every year, the rate of disease transmission increases with the Hajj season.
Last year, due to the increased spread of diseases among Hajj pilgrims, India Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) opened a special Hajj Flu Clinic to provide services to the pilgrims.
