President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that he will not discriminate against anyone in implementing the 'Rule of Law' in the Maldives.
While many people have accused the government of exerting significant influence in the case of Hawwa Yumnu Rasheed, 21, who fell from H. Fentenoy, President Muizzu took to social media platform ‘X’ on Thursday, assuring the people that in enforcing the constitution and laws, no one will be discriminated against, in implementing the rule of law in the island nation.
He said that there would be no discrimination based on a person's lineage, ancestry, position, wealth, friendship, family relations, political ideology, or any other factor.
Yumnu was found fallen on a roof in the early hours of April 18. Although journalists initially asked questions when the incident occurred, the Maldives Police Service (MPS) had kept the information related to the case confidential.
After a lot of information related to the incident was revealed on ‘X’ by activist Hassan Kurusee, information about Yumnu was disclosed at a private press conference held on the night of April 22.
Following public outrage and youth-led protests on April 23, the police held a press conference the next day, April 24, during which they publicly released the profiles of eight additional individuals connected to the case.
