The Maldives Police Service (MPS) has on Friday confirmed that it is investigating a case where copies of Quran’s official translation in Dhivehi were dumped at Thilafushi island.

Photographs depicting these translations dumped in boxes along with streams of trash at Thilafushi island, which is used as a dumping site by capital Malé cities and several other islands from all over the country, had surfaced on social networking platforms.

The Waste Management Corporation, the state-operated company handling waste in the atoll, said that these boxes were dumped at Thilafushi on Wednesday.

A statement from the corporation said that the boxes had been separated from the rest of the trash as soon as their staff had been notified of it, and that the police have begun investigating the matter.

RaajjeMV understands that the vessel responsible for dumping the boxes have been identified.

The corporation’s statement further said that items that require special perishing methods can only be dumped at Thilafushi with permission from it.
