Mandhy summoned to police again

Mariyam “Mandhy” Zubair, an activist of the main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), has been summoned to the Maldives Police Service (MPS) again in connection with remarks she allegedly made regarding the First Couple’s son.

Mandhy was instructed to report to the police at 1pm on Saturday. The police notice stated that Mandhy has been summoned for questioning in connection with a suspected crime. She was instructed to report to the Sergeant Adam Haleem Criminal Investigation Building.

According to the summons notice, Mandhy is required to present herself for questioning in regarding a case where she is suspected of making statements that compromise the dignity of a minor, by allegedly claiming that Sajidha's child vapes, during a live-broadcasted MDP gathering in Malé on the night of March 12.

However, Mandhy's lawyer, Mohamed Nishan Ibrahim, has stated that Mandhy was summoned to the police institution to add some more information to a statement that was taken earlier in connection with the case alleging that she soiled the dignity of the First Couple’s son.

Speaking to RaajjeMV outside the police headquarters, lawyer Nishan revealed that Mandhy was summoned to add some information to a statement previously taken regarding the case where she allegedly made derogatory remarks about the president's son during one of MDP's protests. He said the case is being pursued in consultation with the Prosecutor General.

Lawyer Nishan said that based on the information obtained so far from the investigation into the incident where Mandhy was doused in black oil they have learned that two individuals were taken into police custody. When the two suspects were taken for remand hearings, one suspect’s remand was extended while the other was released.

Mandhy has been summoned to the police and questioned before as well. Previously, she was summoned in connection with remarks she allegedly made relating to the president's son during MDP protests in Malé City.
