An individual has died in an accident in Maandhoo island of Laamu atoll.

According to information received, the deceased is a 35-year-old man named Ibrahim Nauzam from Maabaidhoo island of Laamu atoll.

Speaking to RaajjeMV, the Chief Executive Officer of Gan Hospital, Abdul Hannan Abdul Raheem confirmed that the accident victim succumbed to injuries.

He said that a report was received at 02:50am on Saturday requesting an ambulance after a man had fallen onto the road following an accident. He said that when the young man was brought to the hospital, he showed no signs of movement and was severely injured. Doctors declared him dead at 08:20am on Saturday.

RaajjeMV understands that the man had suffered severe head injuries. The accident occurred when the man’s motorcycle skid out of control and crashed into a wall.

RaajjeMV’s attempts to attain a comment from Maldives Police Service (MPS) regarding the accident, was unsuccessful.

This comes at a time another dangerous accident was reported the previous night, in Hulhumalé. The man involved in the accident is currently in serious condition and is being treated in the emergency department of Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

The number of accidents in the capital Malé City has risen alarmingly of recent, as well as across outlying atolls, resulting in the loss of many lives.
