A man inside a pickup truck near the Republic Square has been arrested in an operation conducted jointly by the Maldives Police Service (MPS) and the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).

However, the police have not disclosed the reason for his arrest. A video circulating on social media shows masked police officers stopping a pickup truck on the outlying road, near the Republic Square.

MNDF personnel were also active in the region alongside officers of the police institution. The Maldivian man driving the pickup truck has been taken into police custody.

In addition to this, the police have searched two houses in the capital Malé City.

However, the police are yet to disclose additional details about this.
