Outpatient Departments (OPDs) at Dharumavantha Hospital, Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), and Villimalé Hospital have been shuttered due to the ongoing spell of bad weather across a majority of the Maldives.
IGMH revealed that due to continuous heavy rainfall in the capital Malé City and flooding in some areas causing difficulties and hardships for several citizens, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has declared 2 March 2025, as a government holiday, and that flooding in the hospital area has made it difficult for patients to visit the hospital.
With this, IGMH has revealed that the OPDs at Dharumavantha Hospital, IGMH, and Villimalé Hospital will be closed on Sunday.
However, IPD and emergency services will continue without interruption.
Due to severe weather conditions across the Maldives, heavy rainfall has been experienced throughout the capital Malé City in the past 24 hours. Several regions including IGMH area have been severely flooded, causing damage to houses in the area.
The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has been carrying out water drainage operations. They stated that the situation was brought back to normal on Sunday morning, and during this operation, 16,911 tons of water was drained from the capital Malé City.
