Gang violence suspect arrested at airport

An individual suspected of being involved in ongoing gang violence and participating in dangerous crimes has been arrested at Velana International Airport (VIA).
The Maldives Police Service (MPS) on Thursday revealed that an individual suspected of being involved in ongoing gang violence and participating in dangerous crimes has been taken into police custody at the airport.
Arrested in connection with the case was Hussain Areesh, 31, of Banafusaage, Fuvahmulah City.
In addition to this, the police institution highlighted that he was taken into custody after being blocked from entering Malaysia when he attempted to fly there while there was an arrest warrant issued for him, and was deported on a different flight.
The suspect has a criminal record as well. This includes records of drug-related offenses, possession of sharp weapons, assault and battery.
As the police institution continues to investigate the case, gang violence incidents have been spiraling in the capital Malé City. Even minors under 18 years of age are participating in these violent criminal offenses.
