Haidar ignored 32 letters, 53 requests for meetings

The Fahi Union Association has stated that they addressed 32 letters to Former Minister of Housing, Land and Urban Development Ali Haidar Ahmed regarding issues that had arisen concerning the 4,000 social housing units being constructed in Hulhumalé under the Gedhoruveriyaa scheme initiated by the former administration of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. They also said that they sent 53 appointment requests to meet with him, but he never met with them even once, ignoring their requests.

This was revealed in a letter sent by the association requesting a meeting with the new Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure, Dr. Abdulla Muththalib, who was recently appointed as the Housing Minister in place of Haidar.

The union’s letter read that as Muththalib is viewed as a personality completely different from those who were there before, Fahi Union wishes to meet and consult with him.

Further the letter that was sent on 6 January 2025 goes on to read that they also wished to express their desire to see the ministry under Muththalib’s leadership as the one that listens to the people's voice and provides services closely to the citizens in a peaceful and harmonious manner.

In response to a letter on January 16 requesting a meeting with the minister at the “earliest opportunity”, the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure stated that “it had been decided not to meet with any parties.”

The reason given in the letter was "to ensure the fairness of the verification process and that it remains free from influence”.
