The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has stated that they have arranged temporary shelter and meals for 44 individuals from seven residences in connection with the rain showers that battered the capital city on Saturday.

NDMA said that these individuals were moved to temporary shelters due to sewage leaks from the toilets of their homes and because the situation had deteriorated to a point where it was interfering with normal living conditions and even cooking meals.

The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), Maldives Police Service (MPS), and Malé City Council have been working together to place sandbags and drain water in Malé due to flooding caused by heavy rain showers.

The Maldives Meteorological Service (MMS) has predicted that some areas will be affected by strong winds in the next 24 hours during the current rainy weather in the Maldives. The department has also stated that the weather in the Maldives is expected to worsen further from Monday.

In connection with Saturday's rain showers, the MNDF Malé Area Command has reported that they provided assistance to 104 houses and placed 528 sandbags during their operation.

MNDF has been working by placing pumps in various areas of Malé to drain flood water. According to MNDF, they drained 18,201 tons of water as part of Saturday’s operation.
