Ahmed Adeeb's sentence
Court orders Adeeb to pay MVR one million fine to the state within a month
The case was concluded with this ruling
As MVR one million of that fine has not been paid to the state yet, the state filed a case to recover the funds
Criminal Court sentenced Adeeb to 20 years in prison

The Civil Court has ordered former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb to pay a fine of MVR one million to the state within one month.

The Criminal Court had previously sentenced Adeeb to 20 years in prison and a fine of MVR two million after finding him guilty in seven cases related to the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) corruption scandal.

As MVR one million of that fine has not been paid to the state yet, the state filed a case to recover the funds. In the ruling made by the Civil Court on Tuesday, it was stated that Adeeb's side had said it would be difficult to pay the entire amount at once. However, as the state refused to grant Adeeb a period longer than one month, the ruling ordered that the money be paid to the state within one month starting from Tuesday.

The Civil Court's ruling stated that in the case filed due to Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Ghafoor not having paid the money owed to the Maldivian state as per the Criminal Court's verdict, the MVR one million that is due and unpaid so far should be paid to the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) within one month starting from 31 December 2024. It also ordered the defendant to respect the Criminal Court's verdict.

The case was concluded with this ruling.
