An internal auditor has been appointed to the Malé City Council for the first time.

The appointment is in fulfillment of Mayor Adam Azim's campaign promise to make the work of the Malé City Council more transparent. As part of the efforts to run Malé City in a transparent manner that prevents corruption, the council advertised for an internal auditor position last October.

With an internal auditor working at the Malé City Council, several internal audit reports that need to be prepared by the council will be produced and additional information will be shared with the residents of Malé and relevant institutions. The council stated that this will greatly help in preventing undue influence and corruption.

Regarding this matter, Malé City Mayor Adam Azim noted that Malé City Council has for the first time appointed an internal auditor, which he described to be an important step taken to ensure full accountability in the affairs of Malé City and to garner public trust.

The city’s mayor highlighted that integrity will be ensured in all council activities, and with the internal auditor, the future of Malé City Council will be shaped as an institution that works transparently.
