A case has been submitted at the People’s Majlis seeking an investigation into the forged land plot documents.
MP for South Galolhu constituency Meekail Ahmed Naseem revealed that a case has been submitted to parliament demanding an investigation into attempts to obtain a plot of land using forged documents.
At a press conference held by main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) on Thursday, MP Meekail said that the case, which involves an attempt to allocate a plot of land in Hulhumalé Phase II to the brother of Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed, Managing Director of Housing Development Corporation (HDC) using forged documents, has been submitted to the People's Majlis for investigation, and concerns have also been shared.
Referring to the press conference held by HDC on Wednesday night regarding the scandal, MP Meekail said that even at that press conference, it was evident that there were attempts to shift blame from one institution to another. Therefore, he stated that for an independent and fair investigation to proceed, current Minister of Housing, Land and Urban Development Dr. Ali Haidar, as well as Fizana Rasheed, who sits on the Social Housing Flats Committee, should be suspended immediately.
MP Meekail has also criticized the large-scale corruption cases that are surfacing within the current administration. He stated that if President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu is aware of these major thefts occurring in the country, he should resign. He also said that due to the changes Muizzu is bringing to independent institutions, many citizens are questioning whether an independent investigation can be carried out.
MP Meekail said that they will not let this matter go, and that MDP will push for an investigation that the independent citizens will accept.
