A youth has been remanded in connection with a drug bust. The Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that the remand period was set for the youth who was arrested during a drug operation conducted on Veymandoo Island in Thaa Atoll.

The drug operation was conducted by officers of the Veymandoo Police Station.

Arrested in connection with the drug bust was Ibrahim Shareef, 23, and native to the island.

The police institution revealed that he was arrested and searched as he was about to depart on a speedboat from Veymandoo to Kinbidhoo Island.

The operation was conducted on November 28. Officers found seven rubber packets filled with suspected narcotics upon searching the suspect.

Upon being presented to the Veymandoo Magistrate Court for his detention regarding the case, the court ordered to remand him for a five-day period.

Further investigations are currently underway in connection with the case at the Veymandoo Police Station.
